Smith Undergraduate Scholarships

Here at the Smith School, we have generous corporate partners and donors who fund our undergraduate scholarships. All of our scholarships are awarded to current Smith School students (as well as students transferring to Smith from institutions outside of the University of Maryland and incoming first-year students). For the 2007-2008 academic year, nearly 1.2 million dollars was available in undergraduate scholarships.

In efforts to pre-plan your time during the next open scholarship process, you may want to get a jump start on your application so that you are not waiting until the application deadline (UNet might experience slower processing due to increased volume if everyone waits until the last minute). Even if you don't begin your application, log in and view the application so you know what is expected in the application. For more information regarding scholarships or the application process, please contact Valerie Johnson, the Coordinator for Scholarships and Special Programs, at vjohnson@rhsmith.umd.edu.

Eligibility

All awards are funded from sources outside of the Smith School, therefore, the stipulations of the awards must be followed. Generally, most scholarships are based upon GPA, major, credit accumulation, demonstrated leadership, residency, financial need, and other factors.

**Although students with cumulative GPAs of 3.3 or higher are more competitive, we encourage ALL Smith students to apply, as certain scholarship criteria varies just like our student body.

How to Apply

  1. As a Smith student, you should first fill out your profile on UNet (https://bmgt-students.rhsmith.umd.edu/undergrad/Portal/Profiles.nsf/OpenMyProfile)
  2. Complete the scholarship application: Smith School students are automatically considered for most Smith School scholarships by completing the general application, (Logistics, Transportation & Supply Chain Management departmental scholarships have a separate application and deadline, see the link at the top of the page).
    • Incoming Transfer and first-year students will not need to submit an application on UNet, we will evaluate the documents you provide during admission.
    • All students who want to be considered for a scholarship next year will need to reapply the following year.
  3. The Office of Undergraduate Studies encourages all Smith students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. By completing this form you make yourself eligible for review of all Smith Scholarships that are earmarked for students with financial need (as determined by the Office of Financial Aid). In addition, having this form on file allows students to be eligible for any monies from the Smith School of the university that may be earmarked for "Emergencies". If you would like financial need to be taken into consideration during the application process, please submit your FAFSA information (February 15 in the university priority deadline, FAFSA forms MUST be completed before the scholarship deadline). For more information on FAFSA, visit the Office of Financial Aid (http://www.financialaid.umd.edu).
